Sue Marranconi
Hi, I'm Sue Marranconi. I live in Meadville, Pennsylvania.
My Pysanky and batik egg art journey began two short years ago. I have always had an interest in Ukrainian egg art and with some research, I have found that many cultures include egg art in their history. I am not Ukrainian, but I still find the culture and art fascinating.
For me, this art is a meditative process. Traditional Ukrainian eggs, called Pysanky, are decorated with symbols that carry meaning and good wishes. The colors also have meaning. The designs have evolved from pagan symbols centuries ago, to Christian meanings later in the practice of Pysanky.
Art Over Easy
The process is achieved by applying layers of dye and wax until the entire egg is covered. The wax is then melted off revealing the design beneath. No two are ever exactly alike. It's always exciting to see the eggs design and color when it is revealed.
I work on a variety of sizes of eggs, from quail to ostrich and everything in between.
