Nancy Asmus
I have been appliquing for over 40 years as my techniques have continued to evolve to present day. Each piece starts with a photograph I have taken or given to me that inspires me. The pictures are made from intricately cut pieces of quilter's fabric adhered to Egyptian cotton and appliquéd with rayon thread for sheen and embellishment. I use batiks, tone on tone, and my own painted fabric in each of my one-of-a-kind applique art. My clients are ones who desire and seek out a unique art form, and I welcome submitted photos and together with your input we can create your “masterpiece “
I have participated in various art shows, contests, and public speaking engagements. Finally in 2006, I opened my own shop; something I only had dreamed of for years had "materialized."
I called my shop Nancy's Under The Steps at 940 Park Avenue Meadville,Pa. I quickly got to work defining myself as a fabric applique artist. I created original artwork , custom sewing and even gave sewing lessons .
Over the years I have appliquéd over 250 originals including 35 church doors entitled the Adoration Series. Tim Kirk of Meadville Fine Arts has been my only printer for 18 years .He has scanned and color corrected each one of my originals.
In 2014 I moved into my present place at the Market House . In 2022 I was designated “artist in residence”.
The easiest way to learn about me is to visit my website and follow my journey through the years. I welcome any questions or comments.
A Roycroft Renaissance Artist
On of my appliqués signs I made years ago stated
CREATING MEMORIES USING FABRIC SCISSORS AND THREAD. That pretty much explains my work ,but it goes way beyond that. As a Christian I do all my art for the Glory of God striving each day to do my very best work.
As a Roycroft Renaissance Artist we are told that every piece we do we are to use Head Heart and Hand .
